The area around muggleswick is steeped in rich mining history. From the 1400s records exist to the mining of lead and its constituent silver. The area was especially renowned for the lead ore (Galena) having a much higher concentrate of silver in it than other mines within the area.
This mine has been inaccessible for over 200 years and its presence is noted only on the first ordnance survey maps available.
Recent events involving local mine exploration experts have allowed the mine to be excavated back to the original entrance and the original cut passage can now be seen.
More on this as it unfolds.
